1. basic conditions
The applicant must be a non Chinese citizen and be in good health.
2. education and age requirements:
(1) for a long term language student and a bachelor's degree, they must have high school graduation and above, and are not more than 35 years old in principle.
(2) a master's degree should be studied with a bachelor's degree or above, and the age is not more than 40 years of age.
(3) a doctor's degree should be studied with a graduate degree or above, and the age is not more than 45 years of age.
Note: all applicants should be 18 years old.
3. language level and professional performance requirements:
(1) to apply for a Chinese teaching program, the Chinese level must reach 180 points above the new version HSK four. When applying for a master's and Ph.D. program in Chinese teaching, the Chinese level must reach the new HSK five level and 180 points, and the professional performance is good at the undergraduate stage.
(2) apply for an undergraduate course in English teaching, except for applicants whose native language is English, the rest applicants must reach 50 points or 5 points of IELTS.
(3) apply for a Ph.D. program in English, except for applicants whose native language is English, the rest applicants must reach 60 points or 5.5 points of IELTS, and their professional performance is good at master's stage.

Applicants from the Chinese government or other scholarships will no longer enjoy the scholarship on foreign students from Northwestern University.



Scholarship details

First class scholarship: full tuition and accommodation fee;
Two scholarship: full tuition;
Three scholarship: full tuition 1/2.



Application materials
1. "application form for admission to foreign students of Northwestern University" (requiring the applicant's own signature);
2. photocopies of valid ordinary passports;
3. the copy of the highest diploma diploma, if the applicant is a student at school, should also submit a certificate issued by the school.
4. the copy of the transcript of the highest diploma stage;
5. no proof of the crime (the mother tongue and the Chinese translation after the notarization); (in English, the result of the examination is valid for 6 months)
6. copies of the physical checklist of foreigners (English, the results are valid for 6 months).
7. copies of HSK transcripts or transcripts of English proficiency test (TOEFL or ILETS) for effective Chinese proficiency test;
8. program for learning and research in China (not less than 800 words, Chinese or English)
9. two letters of recommendation (in Chinese or English) by professors or associate professors (or equivalent titles);
10. received letter from the doctoral supervisor of Northwestern University (Chinese or English)
11. related invention patents or academic papers

Note: the Chinese or English translation of the Chinese or English text must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English translation (except for a Chinese university diploma). All the materials are two copies. The application materials are not returned, whether or not it is accepted.
