2018 Confucius Institute Scholarship 

For the purpose of cultivating qualified Chinese language teachers and facilitating the promotion of Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) launches “Confucius Institute Scholarship” (CIS) to support outstanding students, scholars and currently employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms as well as some HSK test centers (hereinafter to be collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) to study in Chinese universities and colleges (hereinafter referred to as “host institutions”).

As one of the Confucius Institute Scholarship hosting institutions, Northwest University welcomes students from all over the world to study.

 

Eligibility

All applicants shall be

a)      Non-Chinese citizens

b)      In good Physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally

c)      Aspiring to take future careers in the teaching or international promotion of Chinese language.

d)      Between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2018. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not exceed the age limit of 45, while undergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25.

 

Scholarship Types and Qualifications at NWU

 

Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

Start Time: September 2018

Duration of Scholarship: 2 Years

Prerequisites: Must hold a Bachelor degree

            210 HSK Score (Level 5)

            60 HSKK Score (Intermediate Level)

Providing notarized document of employment agreement or related proof of past study in China is preferred.

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

Start Time: September 2018

Duration of Scholarship: 4 Years

Prerequisites: Must hold a high school diploma

            210 HSK Score (Level 4)

            60 HSKK Score (Intermediate Level)

 

Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

Start Time: September 2018

Duration of Scholarship: 11 Months

1.       Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages
Prerequisites:
270 HSK Score (Level 3)

                HSKK Score is also required

2.       Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy
Prerequisites:
180 HSK Score (Level 4)

                60 HSKK Score (Intermediate Level)

3.       Chinese Language Study

Prerequisites: 180 HSK Score (Level 3)

*International students currently studying in China are NOT eligible.

 

Scholarship for One-Semester Study

Start Time: September 2018 or March 2019

Duration of Scholarship: 5 Months

1.       Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

Prerequisites: 210 HSK Score (Level 3)

                HSKK Score is also required

2.       Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

Prerequisites: 210 HSK Score (Level 3)

                HSKK Score is also required

*International students currently studying in China as well as applicants holding X1 or X2 visas are NOT eligible.

 

Scholarship for Four-Week Study

Start Time: July 2018 or December 2018

Duration of Scholarship: 4 Weeks

1.       Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes
Prerequisites:
HSK Test Score

*International students currently studying in China as well as applicants holding X1 or X2 visas are NOT eligible. Organized and applied by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group.

 

Confucius Institute Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

Ø  For MTCSOL applicant: ¥3000 RMB/month

Ø  For BTCSOL, One-year and one semester applicant:

Application Procedures

Ø  Online registration will be available from March 1, 2018 on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn). Please complete online application and upload all the required E-documents, track the application progress, feedback of review and admission results.

Ø  Recommending Institutions, Northwest University and Hanban will review the applicant’s documents in steps. Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out CIS certificate online, and register at host institutions at the designated date and time as per the letter of admission.

 

Hanban will complete the scholarship review and notify the results two months before enrollment of the admitted students..

 

Application Documents

1. A Scanned copy of passport photo page

2. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity)

3. A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation)

4. Official transcript.

5. A Recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institutions

6. Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL Students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide a notarized employment agreement with teaching institutions are preferred.

7. Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall provide the proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employing institution

8. Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL Students are required to provide study plan (800 words)

9. Physical Examination Result

10. Non-criminal Record (for partial countries)

11. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.
